Meet the WinterFest ’27 Musicians - headshots of the musicians
WinterFest ’27, to be held January 21–24, features nine incredible musicians from the U.S. and Canada who bring Johann Sebastian Bach’s extraordinary legacy to life. To help us celebrate this vibrant legacy, three extremely talented musicians make their Bach Charlotte debut at WinterFest ’27.

Sonja DuToit Tengblad has been described as “radiant” by Opera Magazine. She performs regularly with such leading groups as A Far Cry, Lorelei Ensemble, Conspirare,  Blue Heron, Emmanuel Music, and the Handel and Haydn Society.

Lauded by The Miami Herald for “a voice of seductive beauty” and The Boston Globe as an “unfailingly versatile” performer, baritone David McFerrin has won critical acclaim in opera, concert, recital, small ensemble, and crossover repertoire.

A founding member of I FURIOSI Baroque Ensemble, cellist Felix Deak performs and tours regularly with Toronto’s Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra and the Montreal-based viol consort, Les Voix Humaines.

They join Bach Charlotte returnees Aisslinn Nosky, violin; Ian Watson, harpsichord and organ; Esther Jeehae Ahn, piano; Maryse Legault, clarinet; Fiona Hughes, violin; and Maureen Murchie, viola.

From the intimate brilliance of the string quartet to the warmth of Romantic chamber music—and from theatrical Baroque wit to the spiritual and architectural power of Bach himself, WinterFest ’27 is serious music without stiffness, scholarship without distance, and exceptional artistry without pretense. It is Bach as source, Bach as influence, Bach as theater, Bach as inspiration, and Bach as a living presence.
